Auburn - Joel Anthony Davis, 54, died Sunday, February 15, 2009, at his home in the Auburn Community after a lengthy illness. A Lee County native and lifelong resident, he was born May 10, 1954 to Delvie Lawrence and Emma Lula Christian Davis. He was a plant manager for Lee County Foam. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working on old trucks and cars. He loved his children and his dog, Memphis. He was a member of Hughes Chapel Baptist Church.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with The Rev. Jack Washington officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
Survivors include three Children, Joel "Bubba" Davis, Jr. of Tupelo, Andrea Davis of Tupelo, and Emily Davis Massey and husband, Will, of Brandon; three sisters, Mattie Dale Farris and husband, Gene, of Auburn Community, Linda Washington and husband, the Rev. Jack Washington, of Auburn, and Paula Malone and husband, Pete, of Mooreville; one brother, Randy Davis and wife, Brenda, of Saltillo; a special friend and the mother of his children, Bobbie Ready of Tupelo; ten nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Al David Davis.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Rogers, Derrick Washington, David Farris, Malcolm Farris, Gabriel Figueroa, James Conley, Clay Richey and Michael Bradley.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Erick Washington, Neil Gregory, Kenny Gregory, and Joslin Washington.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
