Tupelo - Joe Westmoreland, 74, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 24, 2010, at his home in Tupelo after a long illness. He was born March 10, 1936, in Pontotoc to Joe and Lorene Westmoreland. Earlier in his life, he was an instructor in refrigeration at Itawamba Junior College and had also worked a number of years as service manager with Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. in Tupelo. He was an remote control enthusiast, loved flying his Cesna 172 airplane, and spending time with his family. He and his wife enjoyed sqaure dancing, ballroom dancing, and round dancing. He was owner of Westlareland Glass Company and a member of Priceville Baptist Church.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Robbie Howard officiating. A private graveside service will be in Union Cemetery south of Plantersville.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Jo Westmoreland of Tupelo; two sons, Kenneth Westmoreland of Plantersville and Eric Echo Westmoreland and wife, Dale, of Burnsville; a daughter, Denise Du Bois and husband, Paul, of Tupelo; and a daughter-in-law, Pam Westmoreland of Pascagoula; a sister, Mae Johnson and husband, Douglas of Mt. Dora, Fla.; his grandchildren, Jonathan and Marcus Westmoreland, Carrie Fouthman and husband, Bryan, Kayla Haley and husband, Johnathan, Candy and Melanie Westmoreland, Cory Du Bois and wife, Jenny, Elizabeth and Megan Du Bois, Sean Westmoreland and wife, Crystal, and Chad Westmoreland and wife, Jill; and 12 great-grandchildren.
