Joe H. Wallace, 89, fondly known as ‘Joe Joe’ to family and friends, passed away May 15, 2024. Born on May 14, 1935, Joe was a life-long resident of Tupelo, Mississippi. He grew up on Highland Circle and graduated from Tupelo High School in 1953, and later enrolled at Mississippi State University. Joe was a gregarious, happy person who was truly a friend to everyone he knew.

At the age of 20, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army and was in service to his country from 1955 – 1957 and his deployment included service in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command activities in South Korea.  Following in his father’s footsteps, Joe was a long-time employee of Dement Printing Company, a historic printing company founded in Meridian, Mississippi. A sales representative who travelled extensively to court houses located throughout Mississippi, Joe’s expertise was the sale of the bound ledgers and record books used by county court clerks and recorders.

Joe’s love of the MSU’s sports programs was legendary and his loyalty as a super-fan of all things ‘Bulldog’ were central to his activities. Many of his favorite moments were spent watching sports and reminiscing about games, scores, statistics and dreaming of past and future Bulldog glories. Joe was an avid golfer, and his favorite course was Bel Air Golf Course where, after retirement, he golfed daily and even scored a hole-in-one at Hole No. 3.
Joe was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and Friendship Sunday School Class. He served as a poll worker for many years in Lee County and volunteered with the Salvation Army and food bank in Tupelo.

As a child, Joe was proud of his attainment of Eagle Scout and he later encouraged his nephews and great nephews to attain the Eagle rank. He was extremely proud of all his nephews and nieces and was generous and thoughtful in remembrance of their achievements and activities.
Joe was predeceased in death by his parents, Joseph Harmon and Elizabeth King Wallace. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth W. Brandon and brother David Wallace and his beloved nephews and nieces.
