Joe Hann

March 22, 1932 — July 19, 2011

Tupelo - Joseph August Hann, 79, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at his residence after an extended illness. A Milwaukee, Wisconsin native, Joe was born March 22, 1932, to John Joseph and Anna Gamper Hann.

He served as an Airman with the 1st Air Transport Squadron (MATS) in the Korean Conflict with the United States Air Force.

He graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1959 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked on the Apollo Program with General Motors at Cape Canaveral. Joe retired as Director of Operations at Super Sagless in Tupelo and later retired from Girard Wire in Florence, Alabama. After retiring from Girard Wire, Joe and his wife, Anne, moved from Florence, Alabama and made their home in Biloxi for twelve years. While in Biloxi, they were members of Our Lady of Fatima Church and he was involved with various committees and boards for Our Lady of Fatima grade school and St. Patricks High School. Additionally, he served as a Lector and used his woodworking skills to build furniture and other items for the Church. They then returned to Tupelo to be closer to their family and have lived here for almost two years.

Joe was a devout Catholic and a member of St. James Catholic Church. His faith was central to his life. Joe was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, reading and woodworking. His greatest love was his wife, children and grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at St. James Catholic Church with Father Tom Lalor officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Anne Gardetto Hann of Tupelo; two daughters, Jo Anne Hann Williams (Mark) of Tupelo and Lynn Hann Campbell (Smith) of Alpharetta, Georgia; one son, John Hann of Belden; four grandchildren, Lauren Williams, Tyler Campbell, Kelsee Campbell and James Hann.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Theresa Hann.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to service time Friday, July 22, 2011, at St. James Catholic Church.

Memorials may be made to The Gardetto/Hann Memorial Scholarship. Please make the check payable to Our Lady of Fatima Church with a notation in the memo section of the scholarship name. Memorials may be addressed to Our Lady of Fatima, 2090 Pass Road, Biloxi, MS 39531.
