Palmetto " Bro. Joe William (Bill) Cobb, 86, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford after an extended illness. A Lee County native, he was born November 17, 1922 to Gilbert and Thelma Louise Lipford Cobb. He was a graduate of Palmetto Consolidated High School and a longtime resident of the Palmetto Community. He began his ministry in 1957, pastoring churches in Adamsville, Tenn, Stuttgart, Arkansas, Dyersburg, Tenn. and at Verona Christian Church until his health failed in 1998. He also enjoyed house painting and raising horses.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Verona Christian Church with Bro. Joe Carraway and Bro. Thom Perry officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daugther, Karen Frazier (Jim) of Adamsville, Tenn.; two sons, Dennis Cobb of Palmetto and Daniel Cobb of Dyersburg, Tenn; one brother, Hugh "Skeeter" Cobb of Palmetto; one sister, Jean Pannel (Billy) of Verona; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren..
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 62 years, Helen Bryant Cobb; and one sister, Nora Heatherly.
Pallbearers will be Woody Watson, Clay Mask, David Long, Phillip Pannel, Burt Washington, Joe McKinney.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church.
