Jody Laney

Mary Jo "Jody" Laney, 83, died Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Diversicare in Amory after a brief illness. A native and life-long resident of the Evergreen Community, she was born January 26, 1936, to Ronald Earl and Carrie May McDaniel. Jody spent most of her life taking care of her family at home but drove a school bus for a number of years and later worked as a Nurse's Aide. She enjoyed spending time outdoors working in her flower and vegetable gardens and loved her two dogs. She was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include her two sons, Tony M. McDaniel of the Evergreen Community and Rev. Dr. John Robert Burt and his wife, Rana of Huntsville, Alabama; four grandchildren, Alli Rogers and her husband, Wesley of the Evergreen Community and Meagn Loague and her husband, Wesley of Fulton, John Anders Burt of Huntsville and Katie Tortoris and her husband, Jake of Huntsville; and sister, Sudie Burt of Huntsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred A. Laney; son, Alfred Laney, Jr.; sister, Ruth Arkins; two brothers, Gene McDaniel and Howard McDaniel.

A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2019 at New Chapel Cemetery with Dr. John Robert Burt officiating. Burial will be in New Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were J.C. Holloway, Phillip White, Danny Chummley, Tony Riley, Jeff Ramey and Jeffrey Holloway.
