Thaxton - JoAnn Evans, 62, died Monday, October 12, 2009, at her residence after an extended illness. A Lee County native, she was born December 11, 1946 to A.D.and Hortense Stanford. Before she was disabled, she worked at Reed Manufacturing. For 32 years, she and her family lived in the Brewer Community before moving to Thaxton. She enjoyed playing the mandolin and singing and loved her grandchildren. She was a member of Pleasantdale Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Matthew Reed officiating. Burial will be in Brewer Cemetery.
Survivors include Her husband of nearly 46 years, Mac Evans of Thaxton; her mother,
Hortense Stanford of Troy; three children, Michael Evans and Suzanne Neal (Michael), both of Thaxton and Matthew Evans, of Meridian; four sisters, Wanda Shouse of Wheeler, Jannalle Purvis of Noonan, Ga., Jan Thomas of Meridian, and Sherry Johnson of Troy; one brother, Jerry Stanford of Gulfport; ten grandchildren, Brittany, Michael, Zachary, Anthony, Arthur, Katherine, Jacob, Emily, Bradin, and Brea.
She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Anthony Evans.
Pallbearers will be Brad Baughman, Bill Bates, Greg Bates, Steve Bates, Charles Sutphin and Rodney Stanford .
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday the funeral home.
