Sherman - Joan D.Taylor, 78, died Sunday, December 19, 2010, at her residence after an extended illness. A Sherman native, she was born December 21, 1931 to Walter Flaut and Bertha Shettles Dillard. She was a graduate of Sherman High School, a homemaker and business partner with her husband. Some of the things she enjoyed was quilting, reading, and watching humingbirds. She especially loved to work in her flowers. She was known by family and friends for her genuine Southern Hospility. She was a member of Sherman Baptist Church.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. Marty Roberts, Bro. Bobby Holland and Bro. Floyd Tharp officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Morgan C. Taylor of Sherman; two daughters, Linda Rakestraw (Mike) of Tupelo, Mary Bell (Ronnie) of Tupelo; two sons, Everett Taylor (Peggy) of Sherman; Paul Taylor of Blue Springs; seven grandchildren, Suzanne Roberts,(Rev. Marty) of Wheeler, Nia Brown (Brian) of Pontotoc, Chris Rakestraw (Kim) of Sherman, Jesse Rakestraw of Tupelo, Austin Taylor (Tara) of Tupelo, Will Taylor (Tori) of Fulton and Wesley Bell of Tupelo; six great-grandchildren, Liz, Lee, Emma Grace, Morgan, Colton, and Madeleine.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Sherman Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2010, and 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Sherman Baptist Church.
