Jo Ann Hood
Mobile, Alabama, formerly of the Brewer Community - Jo Ann Hood, 81, went to be with the Lord Monday, August 13, 2018, surrounded by family at home. She was born April 11, 1937, to Henry and Mayme Lee Long Ellis. On June 27, 1988, she married James Hood and together they shared 12 wonderful years until his death on March 17, 2001. Through her unwavering faith and insurmountable love for Christ our Savior, she was able to live a blessed and fulfilling life and touch the hearts of all who met her. Jo Ann enjoyed reading and studying her bible, gardening and enjoying God's work outdoors especially when she visited Smith Lake. She was a devoted member of Brewer Baptist Church until she relocated to Mobile in 2014 where she was a member of First Baptist Church of Dawes.
Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Bell (Tim) of Destin, Florida, Jan Chalk (Shelly) of Mobile, Lee Menard (David) of Houston, Texas, their daughter Lauren Smith (Travis) and their three children; step-children, Barry Hood of Alabama, Lisa Strickland (Heath) of Guntown and Brad Hood (Christy) of Saltillo; step-grandchildren, Brady Hood, Lance Rayburn and Lindsay Rayburn; step-great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Maddux and Levi of Saltillo; and one niece Jackie Hanna of Saltillo.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and one brother, Jack Ellis.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Tim Tutor officiating. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time Friday, August 17, 2018 at W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors, Tupelo.
Pallbearers will be Deacons of Brewer Baptist Church: Joe Minga, Eddie McPherson, Joe Harris, Keith Wiseman, Cliff Tidwell and Tommy Lindsey.
Memorials may be made to the Brewer Baptist Church Music Fund, 302 CR 520 Shannon, MS 38868.
