Tupelo- James “Jimmy” Gilbert Wright, Jr., 68, died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. A Tupelo native, Jimmy was one of nine children of James Gilbert Wright, Sr., and Mildred Yvonne Wilson Wright; he was born on May 15, 1954. Jimmy was a Shannon High School graduate. Jimmy and the love of his life, Sherry Hester Wright, shared 45 years together until her passing. He was a heavy machine operator and truck driver his entire professional career, he was currently working with Hodges Construction. He attended Hughes Chapel Baptist Church. Jimmy, a devoted family man, cherished spending time with his grandchildren.

Jimmy is survived by his children, April George Hanby and her husband, Douglas, of Tupelo, James Wright, III of Saltillo, Karrie Armstrong and her husband, Kenny, of Tupelo, DeShundra Brown and her husband, Bill, of Verona, Cassie Wright of Tupelo, Ericka Thunderburk and her partner, Hunter Riley, of Corinth, and Allen Dakota Lewis of Tupelo; sixteen grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way; three sisters, Sandy Kay Wright of Saltillo, Sherry Courmier of Port Neches, Texas, and Teresa Carroll of Nettleton; brothers, Randy Ray Wright of Saltillo, and Larry Cudd of Frost, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse; one sister, Dorothy Hebburd of Vidor Texas; and two brothers, Bobby Wright of Tupelo, and Charles Cudd of Tupelo.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Monday, May 1, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services will be 3 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. William Bass officiating. Graveside services will follow at Saltillo Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Noah Colburn, Dustin Adams, Andrew Riley, Nicholas Wright, Keith Bass, and Justin Wright.

Honorary pallbearers Benny Calacote, and Daniel Bass.
