Saltillo -- James Tate Jimmy Dye, 71, died Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. He was born in the Brewer Community to James Duel and Nellie Tate Dye on February 6, 1938. He was 20 year retired E 7 Chief petty officer in the United States Navy having served in the Vietnam War. In 1977, he and his family settled in Saltillo where he has lived since then. He was former owner of Dye Refrigeration and had also owned Dye Concessions in Saltillo. He was an avid gardener and had for many years maintained a truck farm. He loved hunting and fishing and was known as a Jack of all trades. He was a member of the Mayfield Church of Christ.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Minister Clyde Mize officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Barbara Rodgers Dye of Saltillo; one daughter, Priscilla Dye Young (Jeffery) of Mooreville; two grandchildren, Kadance Ann Young and Jeffery Todd Young, Jr.; two sisters, Sue Frederick (Bill) of Palmetto and Dale Grubbs of Brewer; one brother, Joe Dye (Diane) of Brewer; his mother, Nellie Tate Dye; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Hankins, Robert Gibson, Dee Scruggs, Leroy Long, Joe Dye and Merle Baker.

Honorary pallbearers will Kadance Ann Young, Jeffrey Todd Young, Jr., Earl Bell, Emajean Gibson, Billie Jo Rogers, and Joel Rogers.

Visitation will be 2:30 until 8 p.m. Monday at the Funeral home.
