Falkville - JIMMIE LOU ELMORE, 76, died Friday, February 8, 2008, Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville, Alabama after an extended illness. A native of Newton, she was born June 15, 1931 to the late Taffie B. and Xena Kennedy Winstead. A graduate of Smithville High School in 1949, she then went on to Mississippi State College for Women where she received her B. S. in Education in 1952. Earlier in her life she taught school for several years. She was a member of the Homemakers club, several senior citizen organizations including Mended Hearts, and was also a partner in the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed reading, crafts, and traveling. She was a longtime member of Harrisburg Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, assistant Sunday School teacher, and a Care leader.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2008 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include her husband, of 54 years, Linwood H. Elmore of Falkville, Alabama; formerlly of Tupelo one daughter, Linda Elmore of Tupelo; one son, Thomas Elmore and his wife, Emily, of Hartselle, Alabama; three grandchildren, John, David, and Lindsey Elmore all of Hartselle.
Pallbearers will be Bill Earwood, Leon Malone, James Wilemon, Mike Duckworth, Ed Herring, C.W. Jackson, Billy Hayes and her grandsons, John and David Elmore.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2008 at the funeral home.
