Jim Langford

JIM LANGFORD Tupelo - James Floyd Langford, 77, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born January 29, 1937, in Montgomery, Alabama to Charles and Lucille Langford. The family moved to Water Valley, Mississippi where he grew up and graduated from Water Valley High School in 1954. After graduation, he attended the University of Mississippi. In 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Inez Beene. He grew up in the Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He never lost his love for the Boy Scouts of America and later was employed as a Scout Executive in Tupelo and Murphreesboro, Tennessee. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country during the Korean conflict. After moving to Tupelo in the early 60's, he worked as a sales clerk for Reed's Department Store. From there, he became an independent insurance salesman. After retiring, he never stopped working and was employed with Toys R Us and until January of 2014 with Vanellis Restaurant. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School, was active in United Methodist Men and a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class. He also served on various other church committees throughout his life. A wholehearted Ole Miss sports fan, he enjoyed gardening, yard work, board games and grilling. Most importantly, his life revolved around spending time with his family. A celebration of his life will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Rooney and Rev. Don McCain officiating. A graveside service will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is entrusted with arrangements. Survivors include his three children, Linda Austin (Bill), Leslie Card (Dewaine) and John Langford (Pon) all of Tupelo; six grandchildren, Anna Austin Taylor (James) of Tupelo, Blake Austin of New York, John Alan Baker (Paige), David Baker (Holly), Drew Langford and Madison Langford, all of Tupelo; four great-grandchildren, Riley, Reed, Reagan and Finley Baker; his nephew, Charlie Langford. Preceding him in death is his wife, Inez Langford in 2004; his brother, David Langford also in 2004 and his parents. His grandsons and nephew will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Marietta Massey, Russ and Annette Wilson, Morris McCain, Jimmy and Martha Langley and Leon and Martha Clay. Visitation will be 1 - 3 p.m. Sunday at the Church.
