Tupelo - Jewell Sprayberry Witt, 78, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. She was born December 23, 1930 in Monroe County to Luke Oren and Lucian V. Hester Wilson and lived most of her life in Shannon. She also owned and operated a business in which she custom made leather handbags. Earlier in her life she worked as a seamstress in the furniture industry. She was married to Marvin D. Sprayberry who died in 1978. She later married Rubel Witt who died September 12, 1996. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Until her health declined, she was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. She was a member of the Baptist church.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Larry Hill Sr, and Rev. Larry Hill, II officiating. Burial will be in Doty Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Thompson and husband, Bobby, of Marietta and Kathy Bailey of Tupelo; one brother, Orville Wilson and wife, Rebecca, of Old Union; two sisters, Laverne Mims and husband, Larry, of Plantersville and Linda "Joy" Edge and husband, Clint, of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Robert L. Thompson, IV, of Marietta, Jimmy Thompson and wife, Samantha, of Marietta, Martin Thompson of Marietta, and Tracye Nance and husband, Brian, of Tupelo; 12 great-grandchildren, Bailey and Tanner Nance of Tupelo, Michelle Sisk and husband, Joe, of Marietta, Ashley Thompson (William Durham)of Tupelo, Hunter Thompson of Marietta, Austin Thompson, Alex Thompson, Samuel Thompson, Will Tucker, all of Marietta, Corbyn Thompson, Melody Thompson, Samantha Barnett, all of Fulton; five great-great grandchildren, Autumn Weaver, Cody Thompson, Jamye Sisk, Madison and Jerimiah Durham; her sister-in-law, Earlene Wilson, of Blue Springs; several nieces and nephews .

She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands; two brothers, Maburn Wilson and wife, Jo, Rex Wilson; one grandson, Terry Grubbs Bailey; her son-in-law, Mark D. Bailey.

Pallbearers will be Robert Thompson, Jimmy Thompson, Martin Thompson, Brian Nance, Austin Thompson, William Durham.
