Jewell H. Smith, 90, was called to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 10, 2018, while at home in Saltillo. He was born November 22, 1927, to the late Shelby and Ara Smith of Saltillo. Jewell was a born again Christian who loved Christ, his family, and his pastor, and always had a song in his heart. He served in the US Army, and after returning home, married his beloved wife of sixty-six years, the late Bonnie Smith, on June 17, 1949. Jewell was a life-long faithful member of Saltillo First United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. He was retired from Reed Manufacturing Company in Tupelo where he was a long time, and loyal employee.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Saltillo First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Green officiating. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by three children, Mike Smith (Peggy) of Saltillo, Gail McKillop (John) of Peachtree City, GA, Mark Smith (Kim) of Saltillo; seven grandchildren, Kerry Slagowitz (Douglas) of Winter Park, FL, Matt McKillop (Brooke) of Peachtree City, GA, Jeff McKillop (Stephanie) of Land O Lakes, FL, Kristen Wells (Ricky) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Tyler Smith (Laura) of Brandon, MS, Ben and Abbie Katherine Smith of Saltillo; and nine great-grandchildren, Aaron, Dain and Lake Slagowitz, Rilynn and Jack McKillop, Juliet, Parker and Max McKillop, and Rico Wells.
Pallbearers will be John McKillop, Ben Smith, Tyler Smith, Matt McKillop, Jeff McKillop and Doug Slagoitt.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Adeline Jones Sunday School Class.
The families would like to extend a special thank you to Pat Ferguson and Barbara Rea who lovingly cared for our parents for many years and continued their love and care for Jewell who serenaded them and his family daily with his favorite hymns and praises to the Lord.
