JEWELL BREAZEALE BROWN Saltillo - Jewell Breazeale Brown passed away December 1, 2014, at her daughter's home in Saltillo, MS. She was born March 28, 1924, to Charlie and Lula Burchfield Breazeale in Ethel, MS. After graduating from Ethel High School, Jewell attended Blue Mountain College. She then moved to Jackson, MS, and met William Thomas Brown, Jr., formerly of Sherman, MS, upon his return from WWII. They married on August 25, 1946, and made their home in Jackson, MS. Jewell was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed traveling with her husband after his retirement, especially in the New England area. She was a genealogy enthusiast, took great pleasure in fishing with a cane pole, and was a passionate Ole Miss sports fan. As a long time member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, she was active in the WMU and served in the preschool ministry. Survivors include her daughter, Paula Brown Carter of Saltillo; sons, William Thomas Brown, III (Sally) of Jackson and Robert Osborne Brown (Jan) of Metairie, Louisiana; eight grandchildren, who lovingly called her Jewella, Presley Carter Walters (Kris) of Hattiesburg, Holly Carter McCoy (Neal) of Saltillo, Ray Carter (Stacey) of Madison, Bonnie Brown of New York City, Shellie Brown of Jackson, Claire, Bobby, and Catherine Brown of Metairie, Louisiana; eight great-grandchildren, Wes, Ann Elise, and Bankston Hays Walters, Mac, South and Carter Cate McCoy and Mary Claire and Thomas William Carter; and her only surviving sibling, Clara Childress of Roswell, Georgia. She is also survived by a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Jewell was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; her parents; four brothers, Everette, Ed, Grady, and Robert Breazeale; and four sisters, Lillian Love Byrd, Zula McCormick, Beatrice Bailey, and Ludie Wardlaw. The family will gather with friends on Thursday, December 4, 2014, from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in the stateroom at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Sherman Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Parker, her nephew-in-law, officiating. W.E. Pegues, Tupelo is entrusted with the arrangements. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ray Carter and Bobby Brown; her grandsons-in-law, Kris Walters and Neal McCoy; and nephews, John McCormick, Gerald McCormick, Steve Breazeale, Buz Wardlaw, and Brad Childress. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Love, Thomas Milton Breazeale, Mickey Breazeale, and John Benton Love. Memorials may be made in her honor to French Camp Academy or a charity of one's choice.
