SHANNON " Jewel Spearman, 77, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a native of Lee County and a longtime resident of Shannon. She was the owner of Jewels Beauty Shop in Verona and Shannon for the last 30 years. She was a member of the Baptist church. She loved fishing, watching hummingbirds and spending special time with her family.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Jim Holcomb and the Rev. Mark Cayson officiating. Burial will be in Priceville Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 56 years, Cecil Spearman of Shannon; one daughter, Rebecca McCarley (Frank) of Shannon; one son, Jackie D. Spearman (Gail) of Tupelo; seven grandchildren, Stacy Wade Spearman (Jennifer) of Mooreville, Shae Spearman of Birmingham, Ala., Sandra Tedford of Bentonville, Ark., Sherry Bentley (Chris) of Shannon and Ashley Rice (Blake) of Shannon, Shannon Woodard (Jerome) of Hattiesburg, and Shelby Ritter (Michael) of Tupelo; nine great-grandchildren, Jack Thomas, Sydney, Skylar, Abbie, Rob, Blake, Drew, Madison, and Conner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lunsford Estes and Vernice Millwood Spearman; one son, Thomas Wade Spearman; three brothers, Thomas Edward Estes, Jap Wade Estes and Leonard Estes; two sisters, Mildred King and her twin, Geraldine Pettigrew.
Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
