Tupelo - Jewel Cole Sheffield, 86, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at her residence after an extended illness. Born February 20, 1926, in the Gilvo Community, she was the daughter of George Dewey and Emma Lee Robinson Cole. She was raised in the Ballardsville Community where she lived the majority of her life until moving to Tupelo 23 years ago. A full time homemaker, she enjoyed sewing, reading, and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Pastor Robert Garland officiating. Burial will be in Gilvo Cemetery. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Milton Sheffield of Tupelo; three daughters, Brenda Gammill of Tupelo, Sherry McCarty (Jim) of Tupelo, and Kathy Fowler (John) of Saltillo; two sisters, June Freeman of Temperance, Mich. and Joyce Burke (Dennis) of Greencastle, Penn.; two brothers, Jerry Cole (Cindy) of West Bend, Wisc. and John Cole (Sandy) of New Holstein, Wisc.; three grandchildren, Matt McCarty (Dawn) of Tupelo, J. Cole McCarty (Megan) of Tupelo, and Natalie Nichols (Daron) of Greenwood; her great-grandchildren, Austin Savage, Cade and Bay McCarty, Avery, Addison, and Abby Nichols. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Patricia Cole; and two brothers, Bill Cole and Dewey Cole Jr. Pallbearers will be Larry McTune, Larry Cole, Chuck Thomason, Sam Rae, and Ben Rae. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Sanctuary Home Hospice, 589 N. Coley Rd., Tupelo MS 38801.
