Jessie Mae Campbell Hughes passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the Diversicare Nursing Facility. She was 97 years old. She was born July 19, 1926 in Mantachie to Tom and Jimmy Fennell. Jessie worked a few years in a milk processing plant; however her life’s purpose was devoted to taking care of others. She was a caring, giving, compassionate lady who loved her family and put their needs before her own. Jessie was a member of the First Jesus Name Church of Mantachie and loved attending services as long as her health allowed.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Emily Owen, Chris Mills, and Kyle Mills; great-grandson, Destin Owen; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband who died in service to our country, Ponte Campbell; her second husband of 54 years, Ellis Arlin Hughes; her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Gail and Ricky Mills; brothers, Rubel, Benson, O'neal, and George Fennell; and a sister, Christina Farris.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Ricky Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Friday at Pegues, Tupelo.
