JERRY TAYLOR Saltillo - Jerry F. Taylor, 64, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born June 13, 1948 in Corinth to Merle "Red" Taylor and Martha Jean Ellis Taylor, he spent most of childhood traveling with his dad who was a legend in Blue Grass music. He enjoyed spending time with his dad at the Grand Ole Opry making memories with music legends such as Bill Monroe, George Jones, Hank Williams, Ferlin Husky, Elvis Presley, Gordon Terry, Ray Price and many other great music legends. Jerry volunteered to serve in the army at the young age of seventeen, he completed boot camp and infantry training school at Ft. Benning, Georgia in 1966 and then went on to proudly fight for his country in the Vietnam War from 1967 - 1969. When Jerry returned from his service he joined the Tupelo Police Dept. where he was a patrol man, detective and a sketch artist, and also worked for the Lee County Sheriff's Department. Jerry had a passion for yard work and cooking. Jerry was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association, Chapter 847, where he served as a veterans service officer. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His life revolved around his grandkids, Cade and Olivia. He will be missed dearly but never forgotten. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Tim Green officiating. Graveside services follow with a military tribute. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Taylor of Saltillo; two daughters, Angie Taylor Bates and Misty Taylor both of Saltillo; two grandchildren, Cade Taylor and Olivia Rutledge both of Saltillo; two brothers, Tracy Taylor of Tupelo and Dale Taylor of Saltillo; three sisters, Darlene Huntington of New Albany, Robin Taylor Wages of Birmingham, Alabama and Gina Taylor Tyra of San Antonio, Texas; a special cousin, Jack McCormick of Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle "Red" Taylor and Martha Jean Taylor; his grandparents; a special aunt, Bobbie Sue McCormick. Visitation will be 4 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the funeral home with two hours prior to services Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Jack McCormick, Tracy Taylor, Davy Estes, Richard Hill, Cade Taylor, Rick Wages, Jimmy White, Casey White and W.K. Webb. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Vietnam Veterans Association, Chapter 842. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
