Tupelo " Jerry L. Smithey, 57, died Friday, January 29, 2010, at his residence after an extended battle with cancer. He was born August 6, 1952 in Mississippi County, Arkansas. He was a roofing and home repair contractor for 35 years before he going into the excavation and general contracting business. He loved motorcycles, hunting and playing dominos. He especially enjoyed his motorcycle trips on his Harley out west with his wife and friends. He was a wonderful caring generous man who was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him. His greatest love was his wife and family, especially his grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2010 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Sammy Lansdell officiating.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Valarie Smithey of Tupelo, four children, Timmy Smithey of Shannon, Angie Bryant (Roy Nobles) of Myrtle, Kacie C. Hollimon (Luke) and Jacob Cameron both of Tupelo; six grandchildren, Ashley Ramey, Christopher Bryant, Bayle Bryant, Nicki Smithey, Cameron Hollimon and Drew Hollimon; six sisters, Sharlene Dixon, Janey Smithey and Mary Ann Spence all of Arkansas, JoAnn Smith (Herschell)of Florida, Tina Tacker of Arkansas and Tammy Smithey of Florida; two brothers, Johnny Smithey (Leann) of Arkansas and Tommy Smithey Jr. (Lisa) of Florida; his son-in-law, Michael Bryant of Sherman & extended siblings of the Shumake Family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tommie Smithey Sr.; his mother, Darlene Smithey Rowell; one brother, James Edward Smithey; one sister, Tommie Fay Smithey, his extended parents, Randolph and Vahantee Shumake.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his close friends, John Ivy, Joey Sloan, the friends he played dominos with and the ones he road motorcycles with.
Visitation will be 2 - 6 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the funeral home.
