Jerry Sloan

PONTOCOLA " Jerry Sloan, 56, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, in Pontotoc County as the result of an automobile accident. He was born Feb. 7, 1952, in Lee County to C.L. Sloan and Jewel Whitmon Sloan. He was a lifelong resident of the Pontocola community. He was a quality control officer for Day-Brite Lighting and an active member of Doty Chapel Baptist Church for 28 years. He was a 1970 graduate of Shannon High School and a 1972 graduate of Itawamba Community College. He attended Mississippi State University. He loved to shoot pool, read his Bible daily, and spend time with and take care of his children and grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Marvin Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Doty Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Sloan and Caleb Sloan, both of Pontocola; the mother of his children, Liz Sloan Isom of Pontocola; one sister, Donna Sue Harmon (Tom) of Troy; one brother, Joey Sloan (Kathy) of Pontocola; nieces, Candice Peden Henry of Troy, Shelley Sloan (Luke) of Daytona, Fla., and Laura Pierce of Pontocola; two nephews, Josey Sloan and Joseph Sloan (Michelle), both of Pontocola; one great-nephew, Sloan Henry of Troy; one great-niece, Juelanna Henry of Troy; two uncles, James Booty Sloan (Wanda) of Tupelo and Rowland Whitmon of Troy.

He was preceded in death by his father, C.L. Sloan, on April 14, 1990, and his mother, Jewel Sloan, on May 30, 2005.

Pallbearers will be John Kenny, Bobby Stafford, Couter Hall, Fred Andy Anderson, Daniel Sloan, Caleb Sloan, Joseph Sloan and Eddie Baker.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
