Jerry Queen

Tupelo - Jerry Queen, 62, died Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at Golden Living Center after an extended illness. A native of Galloway, Ga., he was born February 22, 1946 to Clinton and Mary Petty Queen. He spent his early childhood in Blue Ridge, Ga. and moved to Wynedotte, Mich. where he graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1965. He married Bobbie Madison Queen that same year. In 1980 the family moved to Haleyville, Ala. where they lived until 2007, when he and his wife moved to Tupelo.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a helicoptor mechanic. He also spent 14 years in the Alabama National Guard. While living in Michigan, he worked as a diesel mechanic and was a member of the Teamsters Union and served as a union steward. He later worked in furniture manufacturing. He enjoyed fishing and playing the guitar. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Haleyville, Ala.

Graveside services with military honors will be 1 p.m. Friday at Corinth National Cemetery with his son, Jerry Jay Queen, delivering the eulogy. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 43 years, Bobbie Queen of Tupelo; three children, Jerry Queen and wife, Lisa, of Monroe, Ga., Matthew Queen of Belden, and Donnelle Krantz and husband, Brian, of Argyle, MN; one sister, Pat Queen of Michigan; two brothers, Verlon Queen of North Carolina and Bob Queen of California; six grandchildren, Tara Queen, Kyle Queen and fiancee, Mandy, Luke Queen, Britni Krantz, Crysta Krantz, and Kandis Krantz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
