Tupelo—Jerry Charles Wayne “Big Jerry” Lyle passed away of natural causes on Monday, January 23, 2023 at his home. He was born October 27, 1941 in Somerville, Alabama to Wayne Lyle and Polly Burks. After his high school graduation, Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his discharge, he began his career as an over the road truck driver. Once retired, he began his second career as a forklift operator for MTD Products. He also repaired small engines. Jerry loved being outdoors, camping and fishing until his health began to decline. He could often be found watching his favorite old westerns on television.
Jerry leaves behind his son, Jerry W. Lyle of Shannon (Theresa); one brother, Ricky Burks; four grandchildren, Miranda Brown (Bronson), Tish Hollowell (Jay), Chris Gilley, and Brittany Parkinson (Brandon); six great-grandchildren, Addie Gilley, Payden Smith, Maggie Hollowell, Malaiah Brown, Myles Hollowell, and Walker Brown. Other special folks in Big Jerry’s life include Tammy Wilson, Candace Brekke, Jacob Wilson, Corey Petty, and Robert Feaker.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Polly Burks; his dad, Wayne Lyle, and his daughter, Kathy Gilley.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo. Services honoring Big Jerry’s memory will be 12 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Rev. Dan Rupert officiating.
