Jerolene Westmoreland
Tupelo- Jerolene Francis Morris Westmoreland, 98, passed away May 11, 2023; she was born in Lee County, Mississippi, on July 29, 1924, the only child of Celous and Ollie Moore Morris. She graduated Valedictorian of her class at Mooreville High School in 1942. She married Everette Westmoreland on December 23, 1944, and they celebrated 45 years of marriage together. For most of her children’s lives, she was a homemaker. In 1970, she went to work for Fred’s Dollar Store where she was employed for 32 years, 8 months. She retired at the age of 83.
Having joined in February 1954, she was the longest-living member of Harrisburg Baptist Church and the second oldest member; she enjoyed being a member of the Dot Rieves’ Sunday school class for many years.
Mamaw West, as she was lovingly called by many, was preceded in death by her husband, Everette. She is survived by her children, Charles Westmoreland, Nancy (Teddy) Golding, and Charlotte (Bubba) Bass. Her grandchildren are Lauren Golding, Brett (Jamie) Westmoreland, Robert (Emily) Bass, Katherine Grace (Keyo) Gibbs, and Ben Bass. She has eight great-grandchildren. She loved her special, only surviving, sister-in-law, Jane Westmoreland of Sherman, Mississippi, and many nieces and nephews whom she treasured.
Our family will forever remember the valuable lessons they learned from her and her positive outlook on life even after losing her sight. Her legacy to our family will be a beautiful and exemplary life defined by her faith in Christ.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Monday, May 15, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring Jerolene’s life will be 12 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues. Private graveside services will follow at Longview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Bass, Brett Westmoreland, Keyo Gibbs, Dennis Westmoreland, Dewayne Westmoreland, and Brady Bass.
