Jeanne Lummus
Tupelo- Jeanette “Jeanne” Moak Lummus, 85, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the Greenhouses of Tupelo under Sanctuary Hospice care.
Jeanne was born September 24, 1937, in Natchez, Mississippi, to the late J.T. and Mary Louise Moak. She was a graduate of Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. It was while a student at Mississippi College she met Floyd Lamar Lummus of Ackerman, Mississippi, and they were married June 7, 1958, at Parkway Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. As a young bride she taught Junior High English at Peeples Middle School in Jackson, Mississippi.
Jeanne has known Jesus and her Lord and Savior since childhood, and served Harrisburg Baptist Church, Tupelo, as church librarian, singles Sunday School leader, and was active in WMU. She enjoyed cooking, welcoming people into her home, and loved a pretty table adorned with her husband’s freshly cut roses. She received enjoyment from time with family, traveling with her husband, and collecting antiques. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.
A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Tupelo Memorial Park. Pegues Funeral Director is in charge of the arrangements.
A loving and faithful wife and mother, she is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dr. F.L. Lummus.
She is survived by her siblings, Joel Moak of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Melanie McCoy of Mendenhall, Mississippi; son, Dr. Allan Lummus of Memphis, Tennessee; daughters Dr. Jill Lummus of West Hollywood, California, and Neece Little (Scott) of Madison, Mississippi; and grandchildren Max Diamond Lummus of Memphis, Tennessee, and Luke Little and Jordan Little of Madison, Mississippi.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Bill Hilbun, Dr. Alan Flowers, John Smith, Charlie Greer, Lee Thornton (dec.), Allan Kent and the Kilgo Sunday School Class Harrisburg Baptist Church.
