Jean Tutor Williams

November 9, 1924 — January 3, 2011

Okolona - Jean Tutor Williams, 86, went to her heavenly home to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, January 3, 2011, at her daughters residence with her family by her side. She was born November 9, 1924 to Coleman and Nellie Steele Miller in Robbs, Miss. After graduation from high school, she attended Blue Mountain College where she earned a teaching certificate. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tupelo.

Mrs. Williams enjoyed many years of public service working until the age of 80. In her earlier years, she worked for several jewelers including, Brassfields, Dreifus, Reed's and Little's Jewelers. She worked with the Lee County Tax Collectors Office from January 1976 until July 1997. She then continued working at the Chancery Clerks Office from August 1997 until Jan 2006. She loved vegetable gardening and called her garden her Happy Hunting Ground. She enjoyed baking and cooking for all she loved and touched. Additionally, she enjoyed ceramic therapy. Her three girls called her a Jack of all Trades. Her personal greatest accomplishment in life was being a devoted and loyal mother and grandmother.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Bryan Collier, Bro. Jerry Grammer and Rev. H. B. Miller officiating with a eulogy by Bill Benson. Burial will be in Baldwin Memorial Gardens in Pontotoc.

Survivors include her husband, Robert W. Williams of Tupelo, three daughters, Jeanine Tutor Gregory (Bill) of Okolona, Jeri Tutor Hobson (Lee) of Jackson, Juli Tutor Mills (Dr. Steve Mills) of Brookhaven; one brother, Leonard Clell Miller (Sue) of Collierville, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Betty Miller of Pontotoc; 11 grandchildren, Ashley Jones (Don) of Huntsville, Ala, Allyson Jean Harris (Jon) of Nashville, Harrison Gregory (Kelly) of Tupelo, Jarrod Peters of Jackson, Mackensie Hobson of Jackson, Laurie King (Dustin) of Madison, Mary Claire Mills (Fiancee, Tyler Winford) of Jackson, Sarah Beth Mills, Jennings Mills, Caroline Jean Mills and Julianna Mills all of Brookhaven; two great grandsons, Will and Walker Jones; three step-children, Stanley Williams (Judy) of Plantersville, Ellen Gray (Jim) of Tupelo and Donna Williams Whitesides of Plantersville; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mable Gillon and Dorothy Nell Miller; two brothers, James W. Miller and Billy Wayne Miller.

Pallbearers will be Harrison Gregory, Don Jones, Jon Harris, Jarrod Peters, Jennings Mills, Dustin King, Tyler Winford.

We would like to acknowledge Sarah Timms, Jennifer Green, Linda Ryan, Kathy Riddle, Connie Kohen, Vallie Hiner, Dean Greene and Kim Landreth, her caregivers who treated her with the dignity deserved of this elegant and gracious lady.

Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the funeral home.
