Mantachie—Jean Ramsey passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Countrywood Manor. She was 89 years old. A lifelong resident of Lee and Itawamba Counties, Jean was born April 8, 1934 to Claude and Alma Dodson Starling. She attended Unity and Mantachie Schools where she played basketball. Jean and her husband, Charles Wayne Ramsey, owned a successful furniture store, J and J Discount Sales for over 20 years. She enjoyed making beautiful flower arrangements for her many customers who adored her. She and her husband enjoyed the mountains and trips to purchase items for their store. Jean enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and doting on her grandchildren.
Jean leaves behind her two daughters, Debbie Robertson and Patty Putt (Tim); her grandchildren, Morgan Clayton (Reed), and Ryan Putt; great-grandchildren, Taylor Stefferud, Jacks Stefferud, Ainsley Clayton, and Laney Clayton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her granddaughter, Christy Stefferud Mitchell; sons-in-law Johnny Travis and Bill Robertson; and also her brothers, Herman, Dee, Lee, Truman, and Lamont Starling; and her sister, Eunice Brooks.
Visitation will be 12 p.m. until service time Friday, September 22, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo.
Services celebrating Jean’s rich life will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Bro. Kevin Brown officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery.
Jean’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the entire staff at Countrywood Manor who took excellent care of their precious mother and grandmother.
