Shannon - Janie Vaughan Shannon, 105, went home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2010 at her home. A lifelong resident of Shannon, she was born July 22, 1905 to Andrew Jackson Vaughan and Addie Seale Vaughan. She was a 1924 graduate of Shannon High School and the oldest member of Shannon First Baptist Church. She was baptized and joined the church August 30, 1918. Throughout the years she was actively involved in serving the Lord. After high school she was a clerk at Redus Brothers mercantile and Shannon Brothers Grocery, in old downtown Shannon. During WWII she worked in Praire, MS at Gulf Ordinance Plant making ammunition for the military. For many years she and her sister, Mary Ware Hood enjoyed chair weaving for the public. She also enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and most of all spending time with family and friends, who affectionately knew her as "Mama Jane".
Service will be Monday at 3:00 at the Shannon First Baptist Church. Bro. Jack Maroon and Bro. John Box will be officiating with musical selections by Randy Wood. Burial will be in the Shannon Cemetery. W.E. Pegues is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter Mary Jane Rinehart and her husband Harold, of Shannon; Three granddaughters, Sherrye Moses, Nancy Hutcheson(Mike),and Amy Hester, all of Shannon; Three great-granddaughters, Jordan Hutcheson Mansell (Matthew), Anna Grace Westmoreland (Patrick), and Hope Russell; Three great-grandsons, Jake Martin(Shanna), Dallas Hutcheson, and Stone Hutcheson; Four great-great-grandchildren Savanna Martin, Blaine Martin, Addilyn Mansell, and Noah Westmoreland; One Sister-in-Law Merle Hill Vaughan of Amory; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George V. Shannon, one brother James Agnew Vaughan and one sister Mary Ware Vaughan Hood.
Pallbearers are Jake Martin, Blaine Martin, Dallas Hutcheson, Stone Hutcheson, Matthew Mansell, John Mark McCord and Patrick Westmoreland.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time at the church.
