Beech Springs - Nancy Janice Stembridge Oxner, 68, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A Lee County native and lifelong resident, she was born November 9, 1940, to Victor and Nina Stanley Stembridge. She was a graduate of Tupelo High School and married Sonny Oxner April 22, 1966. Earlier in her life she worked for several doctors' offices prior to working for Central Service for several years. She also worked a number of years for the American Family Association. However, her main priority and occuaption was her family for whom she cared. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and was an avid reader. She was a member of Beech Springs Freewill Baptist Church.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Dennis Kizzire and Rev. Earl Langley officiating. Burial will be in Beech Springs Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Sonny Oxner of Beech Springs; two sons, Victor Marvin "Vic" Oxner (Regina) and Jody Michael Oxner, all of Beech Springs; three grandchildren, Michael Dallas Oxner, Sarah Elizabeth Oxner, and Lily Annabelle Oxner; one brother, Jimmie A. Stembridge (Jane) of New Albany; two sisters, Jean Stembridge and Martha Robbins, both of Beech Springs; her sister-in-law, Betty Yielding Stembridge of Mantachie.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jackie Stembridge.
Pallbearers will be John Robbins, Victor Allen Stembridge, Randy Huffman, Tony Richardson, Doug West, and David Putt.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
