JAMES T. WITT
Richmond Community - James T. Witt, 77, died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at his residence after an extended illness. A Lee Co. native, he was born September 17, 1928 to the late Elzie and Essie Riley Witt. He retired from Delta International after 25 years of service and then opened two retail stores, one in Plantersville and later one in Fulton. He especially enjoyed watching baseball, football and basketball, visiting with friends at local fleamarkets, and raising beagles. He was a member of the Baptist church and was married to the late Lavern Witt for 25 years.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Ricky Pearce officiating. Burial will be in New Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include two children, Janet Witt Marcy and Johnny Witt; five grandchildren, Adelia Marcy Wright, Brady Marcy, Brent Marcy, Blake Marcy and Stefanie Witt, all of Mooreville; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Melvin Witt and Paul Witt.
Pallbearers will be J.E. Marcy, Brayden Whitman, Charlie Shumpert, Bryson Whitman, Jerry Keith, and Presley Arnold, Jr.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
