James White

Tupelo - James D. White, 75, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A Union County native, he was born May 18, 1933 to John Boyd and Mary Ella Palmer White. He was raised in the Jericho Community where he graduated from Jericho High School. He then went on to Mississippi College where he graduated in 1963 prior to attending New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve and was called to active duty where he served two years on the USS Roanoke in the Mediterranian. He was a Southern Baptist bivocational minister, working in the construction industry while pastoring churches in North Missisippi. The churches he served included Brewer Baptist Church, Southside Baptist Church in Aberdeen, and Auburn Baptist Church, where he served the last 14 years of his ministry. Since 1985, he was a partner with his son, operating their business, James White Construction. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Eldridge and Dr. Adron Horne officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sara Kyle White of Tupelo; one daughter, Susan Raburn and husband, Rick, of Memphis; two sons, James A. "Jim" White of Tupelo and John White and wife, Jamie, of Tupelo; one brother, Gerald White of the Jericho Community; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Trotter and husband, Jeremia, of Memphis, John Raburn of Memphis, Randi White of Oklahoma City, Maggie White of University, Mississippi, Alexandria White and Victoria White, both of Tupelo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Douglas White.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Craig White, Curt White, Jeff White, Richard White, Kevin White and Marty Wigginton.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult 4 Men's Sunday School Class of Calvary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
