JAMES A. WEST
Tupelo - James A. West, 80, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at the North Mississippi Medical Center, Hospice Unit. He was born in Sturgis on November 5, 1933, to Arlie and Aileen Williams West. In his early years, he worked as a pharmacist at the landmark TKE in Tupelo. In 1985, he moved to Pontotoc and he bought and operated Furr Drug Store until his retirement in 1998. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of First Methodist Church, Pontotoc and also attended First Methodist Church, Tupelo.
Private family stateroom services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2014, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo with Rev. Jim Curtis officiating.
Survivors include his three children, Anna Walsh of Pontotoc, William West (Elizabeth Pryor West) of Tupelo and John T. West (Sonya Hale West) of Fulton; eight grandchildren, Ashley Carmack, Alexia Long, Robert Howard, Joseph West, Houston West, Mary Collins West, Alex West and John David West; four great-grandchildren, Peyton Finch, Parker Swords, Manning Swords and Anna-Whitten Long; one brother, Alfred West (Phyllis) of Birmingham, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice West and his parents.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. till 11 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2014, at the funeral home.
