James Weathers

Tupelo " James Dudley Weathers, 84, died Sunday, November 1, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. Born July 12, 1925, he was a lifelong resident of Lee County and a longtime member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.


In 1958 he founded Weathers Auto Supply, which he owned and operated for forty years. He expanded the Tupelo location by opening six additional stores throughout the Southeast. He earned a private pilot license and purchased an aircraft which he used extensively in his business. Quite the entrepreneur, he also founded several other businesses including a funeral coach and limousine leasing business and a funeral supply. A very generous individual and devoted advocate for education, he was involved in many philanthropic efforts including the Boy Scouts and Gideons.

Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Reverend David Langerfeld officiating. Burial will be at Lee Memorial Park.

He is survived by a son, Larry Weathers of Tupelo, a grandson, Todd Weathers (Kristen) of Austin, Texas, one great-grandchild, Olivia Leigh Weathers, one brother, Karrie Weathers (Barbara), one sister, Juanita Franks, several nephews and a niece. He is also survived by the mother of his son, Charlene Weathers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Denver and Louie Weathers.

Pallbearers will be Steve Weathers, Mark Weathers, Perry Franks, Michael Franks, Woody Watson and Terry Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be former employees.

Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
