James “Jim” T. Donald

Tupelo- James “Jim” T. Donald, nicknamed "Tick", "Jimmy T." and also lovingly called "Big Daddy" has been welcomed Saturday, September 1, 2018 into the loving arms of God. Jim, age 89, was a man of many gifts. Never meeting a stranger was the gift that made him an excellent sales person, and brought him success as a man who loved to “wheel and deal”.

Jim's favorite hobby was bass fishing, a talent that helped him reel in the catch of his life, Dorothy Norris Donald his loving wife of 61 years.

Together they loved unconditionally their only daughter Cindy Donald Vanderburg and her husband Scott of Collierville, Tennessee. The pride and joy of Jim's life were his two grandsons, Jeffrey Scott Vanderburg of Austin, Texas, and James Tucker Vanderburg of Oxford, Mississippi.

Born in Itawamba County September 19, 1928, Jim's favorite day of the year was the third Sunday in April when all the Donald's gathered for family reunion. A tradition for 73 years, it is still held in Mantachie where Jim and his 9 living siblings watched this family multiply with love. Jim, the youngest of seven sons and five daughters, was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lee Sims "Mommy" and Will Jackson "Poppy" Donald; brothers and sisters, Talmadge (Irene), Muri (Maggie), Audrey (Luna), Oswald ( Vera "Jack"), Trannie Mae Gillentine (Carlton), Syble Burcham (Fletcher), Trent Donald, Ivey Troy Donald, and Jessie Faye Donald.

Jim was also a treasured member of the Norris Family and was preceded in death by Pauline Ledbetter and Moses Norris. Also preceding him in death were brothers and sisters-in-law Ray Brown, Dorris Norris, Gilbert and Reiko Norris, Thomas Wayne Norris, and James Rasberry.

In addition to his immediate family, Jim was blessed to be a step grandparent to Megan V. Westmoreland (Jason) of Germantown, Tennessee, and their two daughters, Libby and Molly. He is also survived by two sisters, Lou Ella "Zude" Brown of Mantachie and Ruth Rasberry of Tupelo; his brothersin-law Robert "Bobby" Norris of Saltillo, David Norris (Linda) of Hickory, North Carolina, and John A. Norris of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and sister-in-law Ruth Norris McDonald (Jack) of La Palma, California. He is also survived by many loving family members and lifelong friends.

Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Tupelo where he served as a Deacon, Gideon, and chairman of the ushers. Jim was a lifelong student of the Holy Bible. He is a United States Veteran and served in the Air Force. At one time he worked assembling the Nash automobile.

His career as a salesman included Malone and Hyde, Borden's, WELO Radio, and WTWV TV. As an entrepreneur he owned The Brick Shirt House and logged many miles in his big white van selling wholesale women's clothing. He was currently employed by his loving wife as her computer expert.

He loved crossword puzzles and old coins; flipped houses, boats, and cars. He was a "Mall Walker" and bought a bicycle at age 85 to take care of his "drive thru" banking.

Jim was a member of the 1947 graduating class of Itawamba High School and he helped organize a yearly class reunion. They celebrated the 71st reunion this year. An honorary bench will be reserved for all remaining class members who would like to attend his service.

We want to say thank you to all the kind and caring nurses on Floor 2 and in ICU B and physicians who cared for us through his stay at North Mississippi Medical Center. Thanks to Dr. Barry Bertolet for not only his care but friendship. Thank you to North Mississippi Hospice Care for comfort and support.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held 3:30 p.m. Monday, September 3, 2018 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues. Private graveside service will follow at Lee Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. until service time Monday September 3, 2018 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
