James T. "Sonny" Lee

James “Sonny” T. Lee, 83, of Verona, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025.

Born on March 4, 1942, Sonny was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend. He spent much of his life in the Verona area, where he was known for his kindness, strong work ethic, and remarkable talent as a woodworker.

He was married to Oline Lee, his loving wife and partner in life, who resides in Verona. Together, they built a beautiful life and family. Sonny was a proud father to his late son, Steven Lee, and his daughter Lisa (Thomas) Daymond of Spring, Texas. He was also a devoted stepfather to Jason (Jay) George. Sonny was a beloved “Pappaw” to his grandchildren, Carter and Ainsley Daymond, also of Spring, Texas.

He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy Dale Lee of Oxford, Mississippi.

Sonny worked for many years in local industry, including at Pontotoc Compress in Pontotoc, and AirCap Industries and Action Lane Industries in Verona, where he dedicated 20 years of service.

Outside of work, he was a masterful woodworker, creating pieces that showcased his patience, skill, and creativity. More than anything, Sonny will be remembered for the deep love he had for his family, especially the joy he found in being a grandfather.

The family would like to give special thanks to his brother-in-law, Elvis Blankenship, who was a devoted caretaker and a constant support to his sister Oline throughout Sonny’s illness.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Pegues, Tupelo. A celebration of Sonny’s life will follow at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Bro. Phillip Caples officiating.

Pallbearers will be Elvis Blankenship, Jason George, Mitchell Robinson, Brandon King, Brandon Smith and Terry Blaylock.
