JAMES BRIAN "JIM" SMITH James Brian "Jim" Smith, born July 30, 1964, in Fort Bragg, NC, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 in Plantersville, MS. He was a beloved son, brother and uncle of great and varied talent, sharp wit, deep understanding, and an insatiable curiosity for the world in which he lived. A gifted and passionate guitarist, he was the frequent center of his family's planned and unplanned musical celebrations of life. Jim spent countless hours outdoors fishing, photographing, and otherwise enjoying the beauty in nature and the joys of traveling and exploring America. Places such as the Grand Canyon, the Atlantic Ocean, the Mississippi River were often the subjects of his photos and memories, but he was just as fulfilled by a quiet porch, a good cup of coffee, an engaging book and a masterfully performed work of music. Although Jim was often a solitary soul, there was nothing he took as much comfort and joy from as his precious family and numerous beloved friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Carter Smith and brother-in-law, Allan Davis. He is survived by his loving mother, Mary Ann Smith of Saltillo, MS; siblings Linda Davis (Knoxville, TN), Nancy Smith and her husband Dennis (Melbourne, FL), Harold C. Smith, Jr. and his wife Michele (New Boston, TX), David Smith and his wife Gina (Shannon, MS), and Rachel Frazure and her husband Don (Fairview Heights, IL). He is also survived by his nephews Sean Peterson, Eric Peterson, Nathan Smith, Joseph Smith, Andrew Smith and Carter Smith, and his nieces Juliana Frazure and Shelby Frazure, and two great-nieces Chloe and Mia Peterson and two great-nephews Ashton and Corbin Peterson. Jim loved animals, especially pets. Beloved animal friends include Obie, Flexie, Roady, Sammy, Pearl, Piddy, Silky, Sophie, Max, and Johnson Demetrius Cool. Services will be held at W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors, 535 Jefferson St., Tupelo, MS, 38804 on January 10, 2014, with visitation at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers and in respect to Jim's wishes, all gifts should be in the form of charitable donations to the American Diabetes Association and American Cancer Society.
