James Edward Smith

JAMES E. SMITH

Tupelo - James Edward Smith, 83, died Thursday, August 31, 2006, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Texas, he was born March 10, 1923 to the late Henry and Winnie Robinett Smith. He was retired Vice President at Fields Co, Lubbock, TX after 32 years of service. He was a Army Air Core veteran of World War II. He loved to play tennis and golf. He was a member of First Evangelical Church.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2006 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Tim Lamphley and Kevin Mangum officiating. Burial will be in Lubbock Cemetery in Texas.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years Dolores Hawkinson Smith of Tupelo; two daughters Saundra Overman and husband, Rick, and Tammi Satterfield and husband, Kelly, all of Lubbock, Tex.; three step-daughters, Diane Swayze and husband, Jim, of Washington State, Carolyn Morrison and husband, Dom, of Houston, Tex., and Debbie Cook and husband, Tommy, of Tupelo; one step-son, Joe Morrison his wife Jan of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; three grandchildren, Morgan and Rhett Overman, and Kolby Satterfield all of Lubbock; four step-grandchildren, Jenifer Morrison of Tuscaloosa, Kristin and Brian Cook of Tupelo, and Trey Westbrook and wife, Casey, of Boston, Mass.; one step- great-granddaughter, Caroline Westbrook of Boston, Mass; two sisters, Ruby Alley and Faye Warshaw, both of Lubbock; one brother, L. G. Smith and wife, Juna, of Brownfield, Tex.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ethyl Maze; and two brothers Harvey and Pete Smith.

Pallbearers will be Jim Nolting, John Gaskin, and Tommy Cook.

Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
