James Barnes
Mooreville- James Rolon Barnes, 90, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 30, 2024. James was born in Lee County on January 22, 1934; he was the son of Annie Faye Barnes. A loving husband, father and grandfather, James enjoyed spending time with his family. Deer hunting, working on his farm, faithfully studying the word of God and attending church services were among his favorite hobbies and activities. James loved his church family dearly and was a member of the Union Grove Church of God of Prophecy and attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Fulton.
He is survived by his son, Rolon Barnes (Jan) of Mooreville; two grandchildren, Dr. Andrew Barnes (Jessica) of Mooreville and Dr. Andria Nanney (Jesse) of Gluckstadt; one sister, Jane Cockrell of Mooreville and her son, Jeff Cockrell; his brothers and sister-in-law, Harvey Mitchell, Jack Mitchell (Judy), Linda Mitchell, and Jerry Sheffield; a few nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Annie Barnes; his lovely wife of over 60 years, Naomi Mitchell Barnes; one sister, Ann Sheffield; and one daughter, Sarah Dean Barnes.
Visitation will be 12 until service time Saturday at Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring his life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues, Tupelo with Bro. Jim Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery.
