James Rodgers

SALTILLO - James Walter Rodgers, 71, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, in Sunflower County after a sudden illness. He was born Oct. 5, 1937, in Lee County to Dempsey D. Rodgers and Edna Hankins Rodgers. He was a longtime resident of Saltillo and a 1957 graduate of Saltillo High School. He was a 100 percent disabled U.S. Navy veteran, honorably discharged after 10 years of service. He also served in the National Guard for five years.

Graveside service with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Springhill Cemetery with Sammy Lansdell officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors, Saltillo Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Martin Rodgers (Tammy) of Guntown and Greg Rodgers of Shannon; two grandsons, Jacob Rodgers and Alex Rodgers of Guntown; one sister, Barbara Dye (James) of the Fellowship community; three nieces, Amanda Clay (Elmer) of Sherman, April Rodgers of Guntown and Priscilla Young (Jeff) of Mooreville; one nephew, Terry Rodgers of Saltillo; great-nieces and great-nephew, Hannah Clay of Sherman, and Kadance Young and Jeffery Todd Young of Mooreville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Timothy Rodgers.

Pallbearers will be Doug Hankins, Bobby Hankins, Leroy Long, Dee Mallett, Martin Rodgers and Jacob Rodgers.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to service time Thursday at the Saltillo Chapel.
