Memphis- James Hoyt Parham, 82, died Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the Veterans Home in Oxford. A Lee County native, he was born February 6, 1924, to the late George Dewey and Irene Franks Parham. He was a member of the Baptist church and lived and worked in Memphis, retiring from the family roofing business. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater, fighting in the battles of Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He received numeral medals and awards including the Eameto Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Bronze Arrowhead, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart for wounds received June 10, 1944.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Gilvo Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Ricky Parham; one grandson, Keith Parham and wife, Betty; one granddaughter, Amy Clouse and husband, Vince; one great-grandson, Maddox Clouse, all of Houston; one sister, Edith Helfin and husband Robert, of Tupelo; one brother Dennis Parham and wife, Kathryn, of Tupelo.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, Douglas, Bobby, Dan, and Guy Parham; one sister, Jewel Parham.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday.
