Tupelo - James Slim Oglesby, 75, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born in Hickory Flat on August 17, 1935. He was a long-time resident of Tupelo. He worked many years as a security officer for places such as Daybrite, SuperSagless and Total Transportation. He enjoyed flowers and selling produce but his passion in life was auctions and he worked 30 years as a licensed auctioneer with Skyline Auctions. An undiscovered comedian, he had a gift for jokes and telling stories.
Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Sue Oglesby of Tupelo; three daughters, Sandra Matkin (Roger) of Plantersville, Sindy Vance (Rick) of Houston and Teresa Edwards of Nettleton; two sons, Mark Oglesby of Nettleton and Mitchell Oglesby of Amory; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four step-children; ten step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Oglesby of Cotton Plant.
He was preceded in death by two sons and one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be James Shannon, Lucky Brassfield, Randy Riley, Travis Dulaney, B. J. Bishop, Tommy Whiteside, Paul Nunnelee and Mike Fair.
Honorary pallbearers will be Andy and Ivy Bishop, J. D. Bishop, Jesse and Billy Edwards, Ryan Oglesby, David, Tommy and James Matkin.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the funeral home.
