Olive BranchJames L. Nelson, 80, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at The Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo after a short illness. A native of Berry, Alabama, he was born March 7, 1929, to the late Thomas Howard Nelson and Mary Ida Patton Nelson. He was a resident of Tupelo and had lived in Olive Branch for the past two years. He worked in management in the Steel Industry. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a Ranger with the 82nd Air Borne Division. He was a Baptist and a huge Alabama football fan.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the All Saints Episcopal Church with Rev. Paul Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three sons, Bud Nelson and wife, Lynn, of Tupelo, Tom Nelson and wife, Karen, of Holly Springs, and Andrew Nelson of Olive Branch; one daughter, Sue Floyd of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one brother, Rex Nelson and wife, Clara, of Berry, Ala.; one sister, Mary Honeycutt of Fayette, Ala.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Elizabeth Nelson of Oxford, Jessica Leslie Nelson of Tupelo, Mackenzie Nelson and Eric Nelson, both of Holly Springs.

He is preceded in death by his wife in 2003, Nepa Nelson.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
