Tishomingo – James W. Miller, age 53, passed away Saturday morning, July 2, 2022 at his residence. He was born May 30th, 1969 in Bourne, Massachusetts to Wilbur Howard Miller and Sylvia Hallmark Barrett. However, he was raised and spent most of his early life in Plantersville, Mississippi.
James was outgoing and made friends everywhere he went. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and anything to do with the outdoors or anything involving a motor. He also loved getting into mischief with his best friend and cousin, David Edwards as well as gathering together with family and friends and helping those in need. James was a movie aficionado, a lover of all spicy and eccentric foods, an outstanding basketball and baseball coach and Vice President of the Dixie Youth of Tishomingo, a teller of terrible dad jokes, a grill master, an amazing storyteller, a great husband, and a wonderful father. James Miller loved Tishomingo and the people of the Tishomingo community.
James was also an incredibly hardworking man, starting work at an early age. Following his grandfather, Vester Hallmark, he learned how to work on cars and chop wood. His great love of cars, however, was inherited from his great uncle Ruel. He later was taken under the wing of his mentor, “Papa” Neil Anderson, who taught him how to fix appliances, air conditioning units, and so much more. He then used these skills to acquire new ones and was given higher education to do so. James has been a plumber, a carpenter, a mechanic, a house builder, a manager, an award-winning salesman, and a commercial heating and air expert technician. He was the epitome of a “Jack of All Trades”.
James leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Donna Thompson Miller, three children, Cassondra Miller, Shelby Miller Lovelady, and James Dylan Miller, all of Tishomingo; a son-in-law Shane Lovelady of Tishomingo; a brother, John Miller and wife Norma Miller of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his mother and father-in-law Clinton and Doris Thompson of Shannon; sister-in-law Cynthia Sturgill and husband Michael Sturgill of Shannon; and their children Keith Whitten and T. Sturgill; great-niece, Paisley Whitten; as well as cherished extended family, Amy and Tommy Harper of Senatobia; and their children Brandon Harper (Jordan), C.J. Harper (Christy), and Jay Harper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Wilbur “Bill” Miller and Sylvia Hallmark Barrett; grandmother, Annie Lee Hallmark; grandfather, Vester Hallmark; uncle, Eddie Huffman; and cousin, David Edwards.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Randy Clark officiating. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
