James McCarter

Tupelo - James Larry McCarter, 67, died Friday, March 12, 2010, at his residence in the Macedonia Community. He was born November 25, 1942 to Benjamin F. and Robbie Ellen Gambrell McCarter. He was a life-long resident of the Macedonia Community. He graduated from Sherman High School and was a graduate of Mohler Barber College in Memphis Tennessee. He served in the Army Reserve from 1960 until 1963. He retired after 41 years of service at the Central Barber Shop in the West Main Shopping Center in Tupelo. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Sammy Lansdell and Rev. Terry Faulkner officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Northwest of Belden.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hawkins McCarter; one daughter, Robbie Ellen Montgomery (Doug); two sons, James Larry "Jay" (Jolie) and Matt McCarter; one sister, Loretta Hettler (Jim), all of Macedonia; two brothers, Joe McCarter of Macedonia and Neal McCarter of Madison; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, John and Lynn Jemison of Kingwood, Texas; seven grandchildren, Drake, Mattison, Trey, Hunter and Callie Sue McCarter, Abbi and Ellie Montgomery; his aunt, Polly Thomason of Tupelo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Lora McCarter.

Pallbearers will be Sidney Holcomb, Paul Taylor, Rick Crone, Tim McCarter, John Rice, Dude Gambrell, Max Moore and Mike Duckworth.

Honorary Pallbearers will be James Larry "Trey" McCarter III, Drake McCarter, Hunter McCarter, Jon McCarter, Ben McCarter, James Jemison, Hank Jemison and Ike McCarter.

Visitation will be 4 - 9 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the funeral home.
