Tupelo - James Richard "J. R. Hickman, 60, died Friday, April 20, 2007, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born April 2, 1947 in Memphis to the late James Henry and Minnie Bell House Hickman. He was raised in Helena, Arkansas where he was a graduate of Central High School in Helena. An Army Veteran, he served his country gallantly during the Vietnam War. Earlier in his working life, he worked with heavy equipment while employed with the U. S. Corp of Engineers. Later in life, he was a truck driver with William's Transfer and Storage in Tupelo, and Landair in Memphis. He was an avid musician playing lead guiter and bass guiter, with several area bands including the "Travelers gospel band and Nite-Train big sound band. He was a member of Liberty Pethocostal Church.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. David Hendrix officiating. Burial will be in Grays Cemetery.

Survivors include Frankie Oliver Castle Hickman of Tupelo; two sons, Scott Hickman of Clearwater, Florida, and Ben Hickman of Bryant, Arkansas; one sister, Lena Vernell "LynnClemmer and her husband, Dick, of Tupelo; one nephew, Danny Clemmer of Tupelo; a great niece, Amanda Clemmer of Nashville, Tennessee.

Pallbearers will be Eric Adams, Jason Adams, Jimmy Hutcheson, Jr., Michael Hester, Daniel Strickland, Wayne Utz, and Eric Dickson.

Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
