James Elliott Hairston was born on October 6, 1957, to Clarence and Ruby Hairston, in Smithville, Mississippi. He was the youngest of five children: Clara, Norma, James Robert, and Wanda.

He is survived by his mother, Ruby of Amory; his son, Justin Hairston (Jessica) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and his sisters, Clara Hairston of Amory; Norma Hairston Morrison of West Point; and Wanda Hairston (Mike Boone) of Holly Springs.

He is also survived by two nieces and one nephew: Taylor Neal of Tampa, Florida, Alex Boone Edwards (Jacob) [Parker and Preston Edwards] of Rockwall, Texas, and Harvey Lee Morrison III, [Brantley, Westin, and Elora Ray] of Milton, Florida.

James was preceded in death by his father, Clarence, and his brother, James Robert.

James was a graduate of Hatley High School, class of 1976. After school, he began his adult life by working on the railroad throughout the United States. Sometime thereafter, James returned home to Mississippi and started his career as a car salesman. After the birth of his son, he began working at Modern Tool and Die (MTD) in Verona. In 2005, James transferred to the company’s location in Southern Arizona/Mexico. In 2007, he again returned home to Mississippi and began working as a supervisor at APMM in Saltillo, where he would eventually retire.

James had many loves in this world, but none greater than his son Justin, his dogs (Cleatus, Duke, Earl, and Thelma) and his unwavering love of all things Ole Miss Rebels. James spent many Saturdays in the Fall, cheering on his Ole Miss Rebels and watching his son play in the Ole Miss band.
