James William Farrar, 70, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at his home after a long battle with ALS. He was born October 21, 1947, in Lee County, to Douglas and Eula Mae Gaines Farrar. James married Jo Ann Moore October 19,1973. Jim served his country in the United States Army for 10 years before being granted a medical retirement in the late 70's. He worked in retail sales for a total of 34 years, starting at Save First Auto Parts and going to O'Reilly's Auto Parts for the last decade of his working years. Jim was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan and enjoyed collecting Dale Earnhardt, Sr., and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. memorabilia. He was also a fan of Alabama State University football. He also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim and his wife were members of Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife of 44 years, Jo Ann Farrar of Tupelo; daughter, Jennifer Farrar of Tupelo; son, Joseph Shane Farrar (Amanda) of Ogden, Utah; brother, Wayne Farrar of the Brewer community; grandchildren, Darian Johnson (Justin), Carli Carwille, Isabella Farrar, Jacob Farrar Eliza Farrar, Peyton Pitts, Wyatt Thompson, Dray Thrasher, and Keisha Thrasher and great-grandchildren, Cooper and Lane Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Keith Farrar and sister, Dorothy Ruth Farrar.
Services will be 3 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017, at Faith Baptist Church with visitation from 1 p.m. until service time. Dr. Phil Ellis will be officiating the service and entombment will be in the Lee Memorial Mausoleum. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Dray Thrasher, John McKinney, Tony Rodriguez, Jake Trotter and Scott Farrar.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Farrar and members of Praise Sunday school class at Faith Baptist Church.
