Tupelo - James E. Jim Alder, died at his residence in Tupelo after a sudden illness. A Toledo, Ohio native, he was born May 19, 1926 to James and Anna Kehl Alder. He was a US Air Corps veteran (8th Air Force) of World War II and served in the European theater. He was a graduate of the University of Dayton in Ohio. He worked as a chemist and retired after 35 years from Abbott Laboratories as Corporate Director of Compliance Assurance in the Chicago, Illinois area. After retirement, he moved with his family to Tupelo in 1990 and was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Tom Lalor officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Gardens. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Mark Alder and his wife, Cecilia, of Hinsdale, Illinois, Michael Alder and his wife, Cathy, of Tupelo and Jeff Alder and his wife, Sally, of Manhattan Beach, California; three grandchildren, Matthew Alder of Hinsdale, Bradley and Rachel Alder of Manhattan Beach; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death September 1, 2007, by his wife of 48 years, Fannie Alder, and his brother, Robert Alder.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Thorn, Eric Thorn, Grayson Robbins and Steve Prestridge
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until noon, Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the funeral home.
