Tupelo - James H. Davis, 80, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Golden Living Center after an extended illness. He was born December 20, 1927 in Dumas to Thomas Houston and Fannie Fay Davis. A longtime resident of Tupelo, he was a retired Taxi-cab driver in the Tupelo area until he became disabled. He was the widow of Bessie Davis who died November 30, 2001. He enjoyed playing cards, working in his yard, and special times spent with family. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Graveside Services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Mayfield Cemetery with Sammy Lansdell and Rev. Jackie Carnathan officiating.
Survivors include his daughter, Ruth Ann Sims and husband, Curtis, of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons, Thomas F. Davis, and wife, Patricia, of Shannon and James T. Davis and fiancee, Katie Vaughn, of Tupelo; his grandson, Thomas Clay Davis, and wife, Starlon, of Shannon; two great-grandchildren, Hanna Leeann Davis and Alexis Morgan Davis.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Bessie Lee Davis; his parents; an infant son; one sister, Pauline Taylor; and two brothers, Charles and Leroy Davis.
Pallbearers will be Hayward Bullock, Tim Murphy, Jimmy Plaxico, William Welch, Michael Roach, and Eric Ferris.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
